The unthankful heart... discovers no mercies; but let the thankful heart sweep through the day and,
as the magnet finds the iron, so it will find, in every hour, some heavenly blessings!
Henry Ward Beecher

There will always be times in our lives when we are in need of another to help lift us onto our feet,
when times are tough or spirits are down. In those moments we tend focus more on the good works of a  stranger, and neglect to thank the ones closest to us that, that have been there day in and day out.
So today i want to say thanks, for all of the small and large, for the laughter and the tears, for their courage and their strength, their patience and their grace and most of all their love and support!

I pray i can be there for you in the same way!

Play in the pouring rain.
Dance when theres no music.
Walk barefoot in the sand.
Lay under the stars.
Love like no other.
Share secrets with friends.
Laugh until it hurts,
and remember every minute of it,
cause you only get one life.

Our relationships are so important, and like anything in life you need to work on it to keep the spark and life in it alive.

Youth is not a time of life—it is a state of mind. It is not a matter of red cheeks, red lips and supple knees. It is a temper of the will; a quality of the imagination; a vigor of the emotions; it is a freshness of the deep springs of life. Youth means a tempermental predominance of courage over timidity, of the appetite for adventure over a life of ease. This often exists in a man of fifty, more than in a boy of twenty.
Nobody grows old by merely living a number of years; people grow old by deserting their ideals.
Years may wrinkle the skin, but to give up enthusiasm wrinkles the soul. Worry, doubt, self-distrust, fear and despair—these are the long, long years that bow the head and turn the growing spirit back to dust.

Whether seventy or sixteen, there is in every being’s heart a love of wonder; the sweet amazement at the stars and starlike things and thoughts; the undaunted challenge of events, the unfailing childlike appetite for what comes next, and the joy in the game of life.
You are as young as your faith, as old as your doubt; as young as your self-confidence, as old as your fear, as young as your hope, as old as your despair.

In the central place of your heart there is a wireless station. So long as it receives messages of beauty, hope, cheer, grandeur, courage, and power from the earth, from men and from the Infinite—so long are you young. When the wires are all down and the central places of your heart are covered with the snows of pessimism and the ice of cynicism, then are you grown old, indeed!

Lately I've realized that the kids i lead and look after have so much to teach me. Its that simple joy, simple faith and simple love that I find so inspiring. As grown ups we learn that we must question the things we hear and see, and also accept that there are so many gray areas we need to consider. But kids they see things so clearly, they look at other kids and don't see color or nationality they see a new friend, they look at their family and they see love (beyond the tantrums), they know that their family will always be there, everything around them is a new adventure! They keep things simple, they  learn to find joy and happiness in the dullest environments, they laugh when they are happy, cry when their sad, sleep when their tired and run around crazy when they have energy. Their freedom of spirit is the thing people tend to want to crush, but also the thing they are missing and needing in their own lives.

The art of being happy lies in the power of extracting happiness from common things.

Those who can laugh without cause have either found the true meaning of happiness or have gone stark raving mad.  ~Norm Papernick

There is one thing I truly love about kids... they know how to have fun! They are wired in a way that they see the opportunity for joy in the moments we see as mediocre; they see magical objects and we see something so plain and a world of possibility when we see one of predictability...
Why did we decide that to grow up we had to loose that, loose the excitement that opens our imagination to see the possibilities? So many parents and teacher focus their energy on helping them grow up and become adults, (which is a good thing don't get me wrong) that sometime they forget that those kids can teach them something in return. The uncomplicated and opportunistic attitudes of kids is something to be admired. I know each time i take my nephews out to a play ground or shop, they become instant friends with whatever kids are around them; or whenever we get the dress ups out at home they become the most powerful power ranger or a scary dinosaur...
In the end i think it comes down to the fact that kids aren't afraid to be themselves and we are told that to be a responsible adult, we are to be reserved, to know our place and stay within the boundary that society says is appropriate. One of my favorite movie quotes is "Why are you trying so hard to fit in, when your born to stand out?" Everyone of us are born to stand out, born for a purpose that only we can fill, not one that can be fulfilled by carbon copies of one mans idea of acceptability.
So stand out! Find the child within you and learn to have fun, to be silly and truly be yourself!

In the right light, at the right time, everything is extraordinary.  ~Aaron Rose

In life the most important thing we need to remind ourselves of, is to open our eyes...
We make ourselves believe that we are conscious of everything around us, but in fact we are letting the truly beautiful moments pass us by. I heard a great person once say "The best type of leader learns to walk slowly through the crowd." The small and fleeting moments that we often brush by, can be that glimmer of light needed to illuminate the rest of our day.

This year instead of making all sorts of new years resolutions I'm choosing to change my heart...
We can change the way we eat and the way we look but it wont change the way we view ourselves...
And we can change our friends or grow closer to them but it wont make us feel fulfilled...
We can change where we live or what we do, but it wont change where we are headed...
True joy and contentment starts in our heart and flows out from there!
